INTUITIVE EATING | Shifting Your Relationship With Your Body

The dietary and food industry does not want you to eat intuitively. They want you to carefully watch their curated models that beam with health, vitality and beauty and they want you…no, they need you to feel incomplete; not enough; not quite ‘there’ yet.

But the biggest bugger of this industry (like most industries on the planet) is that they need you to abdicate your own sovereignty of self. In order for them to proliferate, they need you to give up your own sovereignty.

The silent agreement is that they know better what you need than you do.

This, of course, is utter nonsense.

There is no one on this planet that could possibly know what you need - which foods would feed your body and mind - better than you. But we have flipped this intuitive switch to the “OFF” position in our innocent attempt to ‘listen to the experts.’

And yet there can be no better expert on you than you.

In order to turn our intuitive switch back on, we have to be willing to make certain concessions with ourselves. Here is how we can ignite our dormant intuition and turn this vital mechanism back ON.

  1. Decide that your body is not a machine that needs to be dominated. Remember that your body knows how to beat its heart, circulate its blood, put you to sleep at night, wake you up in the morning and keep you alive, without any input from you. Your body is no machine. It is a veritable Wizard.

  2. Remember that the body is always working to create balance. Inflammation is a sign of the body attempting to heal. Headaches are a sign that the body is attempting to heal. Constipation is a sign that the body is attempting to heal. Your body has never been against you. It is always attempting to heal and create balance.

  3. Forget what any and all ‘industry’ is trying to tell you need to have for: Beauty, health, youth…The truth is, your body has always known exactly what you need, if you would simply slow down and listen to it.

  4. Before you eat, ask yourself some questions: Am I actually hungry or is something else going on? Am I full? Do I want cleansing foods right now (fruits and veggies) or am I craving nourishing foods (meat, seafood, avocados, potatoes)? What would feel fun to make or cook?

Intuitive eating brings your relationship with your body back to YOU. When we stop outsourcing our own innate and intuitive knowledge of what would best serve us (and truly, that can only be known by your own wisdom) we gain an immense amount of power; which, of course, was always present within your own body.

So we stop outsourcing. We stop trying to arm-wrestle our bodies into submission. We allow them to flower as they were meant to be. We step out of our own way and allow the eternal wisdom within to guide us.

It never, ever fails.
